One Avoided Moment in History

Everything in the open, none of it discussed...just one moment in their shared history, one they avoided in favor of loving each other and building new and better things. By Steph Cha in Your House Will Pay

Shared moments are building blocks for relationships. Families have a shared history, relationships have shared experiences, friendships have shared events, and we share moments with everyone around us. The impact of those shared moments can be different in different contexts. In a friendship context, shared moments can be fun dinner conversation topics at a reunion. In a relationship context, shared moments can be fond memories of when you fell in love with each other. In a family context, shared moments can be the experiences that led your family to be where you are today. Shared moments can also be very painful - times in your life that you would rather forget. Experiences that seem to be too fragile to interact with in the present. So you might come to a silent mutual understanding that these shared moments should be left in the past, so you can focus on building for the present and future. Do you have any shared moments that are avoided? Why is that? What would happen if you didn’t avoid them but allowed them to be present?
